Anesthesia and Pain Medicine

Welcome to the Department of Anesthesia and Pain medicine

Our department reflects the comprehensive effort of an exceptional team of anesthesia physicians, nurses, and staffs to advances patient care within Ewha Womans University Medical Center. Through excellence in physician leadership, research, education, and innovation since we began in 1960, we have improved perioperative outcome and establish the very best in patient care.

Of our diverse research interests, we have got major attention for progressing the signals of the rat glutamate transporter EAAT3 expressed in Xenopus oocytes. Numerous drugs, especially antidepressants in the view of pain modulators, were focused and tested for publication. Another fields of interests have been the antinociceptive effects of the opioids and local anethetics in pain percpetion and modulation in animals and clinical settings. During field blocks and various medical procedures by ultrasonographic guidance, we've intended upgrading the quality of patient care and breaking new ground in medical research

Our faculty participate in a wide range of medical education projects at Ewha Womans University Medical School in addition to management of the training program in anesthesiology attracting the most promising residents and fellows trained by superior clinicians to become leaders in their specialties. Our center, EMSC, provides myriad opportunities to master technique and promote innovation. Our pain clinic and premedication clinic provide information help and advice for pain sufferers and their carers on the diagnosis and treatment of common acute and chronic pain complaints

We not only care for the body during surgery, but perform compassionate and comfortable preoperative and postoperative care as well. Surgery may necessarily arise as a major event along a lifeline, but it need not negatively and permanently disrupt life. Through extraordinary expertise, research, and innovation, we optimize patient care.

Thank you for visiting the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
