Welcome to the Department of Preventive Medicine

The Department of Preventive Medicine has three specialty areas: epidemiology, healthcare policy & management, and occupational & environmental health. Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states or events to identify factors which promote health and reduce the burden of disease in human populations. Health policy and management is the study field relating to leadership, management, and administration of hospitals, hospital networks, and health care systems. Occupational and environmental health refers to the theory and practice of assessing, correcting, controlling, and preventing the risk factors in the workplace and environment that can potentially affect the health adversely.

The department of Preventive Medicine at the College of Medicine of Ewha Womans University has evolved continuously, and we carry out a wide range of cutting-edge population-oriented research. Our faculty possess a broad range of expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental and occupational medicine, health care manpower, health care system, medical law, and hospital management and quality improvement.

Since 1948, the Department of Preventive Medicine at the College of Medicine of Ewha Womans University has provided the excellent educational curriculums for undergraduate, medical, and graduate students to prepare future leaders in disease prevention and health promotion in academia, government, industry, health care, and non-governmental organizations. We have a residency training program as well. The didactic training includes the acquisition of a PhD by the end of the training. Over the three-year residency training period, residents have the opportunity to participate in diverse research projects and to be exposed to a wide variety of settings where preventive medicine is practiced. Supervision comes from an outstanding faculty who are committed to developing the future leadership in our department’s related fields.
